About this course
One of the first ways to communicate with and show respect for the natural world is the proper use of herbs: in how we pick them and how we use them.
This course will cover the four primary herbs North American indigenous people use for smudging:
- tobacco, sage, cedar and sweetgrass;
- what you will need for smudging,
- how to smudge,
- how to obtain herbs for smudging.

Your instructor
Molly Larkin has walked the Red Road [Native American indigenous spiritual path] for close to 40 years. She’s a Sun Dancer, pipe carrier, purification lodge leader, and vision fast leader.
She was an apprentice to Muskogee-Creek elder and healer Marcellus Bear Heart Williams, with whom she co-authored his book, The Wind Is My Mother, The Life and Teachings of a Native American Shaman.
She was also a student of Lakota elder Grandfather Wallace Black Elk. Both Grandfather Wallace and Bear Heart trained and authorized her to teach these ways.
She teaches Spiritual Healing for England’s The Healing Trust and has also authored two related books:

This course came about when Molly was asked to create a curriculum to teach therapists how to smudge their Native American clients.
